15 wonders of the modern world

A sculpture that was modeled in marble and also had ivory, gold, precious stones… it was a real jewel representing Zeus, and was located in Olympia, Greece. Legend has it that Caligula, upon learning of the statue’s existence, sent his men to cut off its head and put his own in its place. When they arrived, they heard the thunderous laughter of the god Zeus and left in terror, never to return. The statue was subsequently moved until it succumbed to the flames of a fire.

Another marvel of the Mesoamerican zone, the main constructions date between 800 and 1100 AD. The most famous temple is that of Kukulkan, but we can see many more archaeological vestiges in Chichen: the sacred cenote where human sacrifices were made for the gods, the ball game, other temples like the Jaguar, Venus, etc. The observatory, several platforms, houses, and much more!

The statue, 38 meters high, is located on the Corcovado hill (71 m above sea level), and can be seen from almost anywhere in Rio de Janeiro. It was inaugurated on October 12, 1931, already baptized as the largest art deco work in the world.

seven wonders of the ancient and modern world

The 7 wonders of the ancient world were seven monuments, located in the Mediterranean and Middle East, which were considered to be the greatest man-made constructions of the Ancient Age. So considered by several classical writers, especially of Hellenistic times, such as Antipater of Sidon, the list of the seven wonders has not always been composed of the same protagonists.

Finally, however, a consensus was reached as to which seven monuments should have the title of «wonder of the world»: the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Colossus of Rhodes, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia and the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus.

The temple of Artemis is included in The 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. The temple was located in a prosperous region, as travelers and merchants from all over Asia Minor passed through it. The temple was for many people a symbol of faith for many people.
